Font dels Cóms
|
To be found at the foot of the old street dels Xiulets, this well-known fountain was built in 1866, as engraved, although its existence is previously documented. It is an interesting example of an urban fountain. It has a central arch, built around an old millstone, with two spouts which pour water into a sink or shelf made from a cut slab. On both sides, there is a trough made with four thick slabs that form a rectangular box. This combined the two functions intended for: the two spouts were used by the housewives to get water for household tasks, while the lateral troughs were used by the cattle of the Parròquia, owned by outsiders crossing the village, that were going to fairs, or by a mule herd owned by Andorran muleteers, that often stopped to rest in Sant Julià. It is mentioned in a Comú’s provision in 1805, which forbids washing clothes and other things and taking water with buckets.
