Font de l'Àrtic
|
Its name defines a place made cultivable by the "Artigas" method, which consists of cutting and burning vegetation in an effort to gain new farmland in the mountains and, effectively, around the fountain there is a series of terraces that confirm this. Some habitants from Aixovall also call it Font de la Tosca, the name derives from the calcareous nature of the rock from which emerged the spring. Until not many years ago, a pipe carried water from the fountain to the village of Aixovall, on the air, above the Valira river. During the construction of a villa nearby, the explosion made the fountain dry. This probably moved rocks and closed the water underground conduit. However, the fountain has been rebuilt next to the road, just below the original source, but the new fountain’s water comes from the public network. |
